Elizabeth Howard Hill

Betty Hill was born March 19, 1918 in Spokane, Washington. She grew up in Kellogg, Idaho and later moved to Walla Walla, Washington. She graduated from Whitman College in 1939 and then from University of Washington in 1940 with a Degree in Library Science. She married Kenneth P. Hill on January 1, 1942. He died in 2002.

The Hills had made their home in southwest Portland until 1980, when they retired to Oceanside, Oregon. In 1994 they returned to the Portland area and lived in the Charbonneau District of Wilsonville.

Betty worked in the Multnomah County Library system at the Hillsdale Library, the Bookmobile and at the Central Library. She retired in 1980.

She enjoyed gardening and was very creative, always finding some creative outlet, whether it was through cooking, sewing, or home design. She loved reading and books and did the daily crossword puzzle and Jumble, always trying to stimulate her mind.

In 1959 she became a member of P.E.O., a women’s organization that provides scholarships, loans and grants to educate women. She met many of her lifetime friends in the organization and remained active until the time of her death.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Styner (Jon); son, Glenn Hill (Darlene) of Sherwood; grandchildren, Kevin Hill of Tualatin; Katherine Perez (Anthony) of Sherwood; Eric Styner of Redmond, Washington; Evan Styner of Tigard; her great grandson, Noah Perez of Sherwood; and three nephews, Jim Hill, Rick Hill and Brian Hill and their families.
