Elizabeth "Betty" Mayer

September 1, 1941 – September 15, 2025

Elizabeth J. Mayer (Betty), age 84, of Tigard, Oregon passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. Betty was born to William N. and Elizabeth Spears on September 1, 1941 in El Paso, Texas. Betty graduated from Natrona County High School in 1959 and begin enrolled in the Nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Betty obtained her RN in Nursing in 1962 and it was during this time she caught the eye of a young soldier working in the hospital named James. Betty and Jim married in January 1963 and started their family. Betty was a very proud and supportive mother, actively involved in all of the activities of her children, and subsequently her four grandchildren. Betty was also a dedicated Nurse and spent her career advocating for better care for her patients. In addition to her RN certification, she obtained bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Linfield in 1986 and a master’s degree in Nursing Management from City University in 1994. Betty worked at St. Vincent's Hospital from 1973 to 2005. Upon her retirement from St. Vincent’s, she became a Nursing Instructor for Linfield’s Nursing program in Portland, passing her knowledge and experience to the next generation of Nurses. She took up golf and played many courses throughout the West with Jim on their many golfing vacations. She also loved spending time at the family cabin in LaPine, Oregon and playing their home course of Quail Run where they were members. Betty was an active runner and participated in the Hood to Coast Walking relay several times. Betty will be remembered for her kind, generous spirit and her devotion to her family.

A Celebration of Life for Betty Mayer will be held on October 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at Young’s Funeral Home 11831 SW Pacific Hwy, Tigard, OR 97223.
