Florence Yvonne Burgess

Florence Yvonne Burgess, age 86, of Tigard, Oregon passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Florence, who went by Yvonne, was born August 23, 1936, to her parents Milford and Margaret Pearson. Yvonne married George Burgess in 1957 and was happily married for 54 years. She and George were incredibly active in the Tigard community, particularly the Tigard Library. Yvonne was a Tigard Public Library board member from 1973-1980 and again from 1991-1995. In 1985 she became a member of the Friends of the Library organization, and was president of it in 1990 and then secretary from 1991-2012. She volunteered in the library until 2020, logging 7,265 hours! In 2012 the Tigard City Council passed resolution 12-07 naming the library community room the George and Yvonne Burgess Community Room. They were both also members of West Hills Baptist Church since 1962. Yvonne was a creative woman, she could sew, quilt and paint. She was very active in the Tigard Art Club since 1966.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Andrea Elogbi; son, Craig Burgess; her six grandchildren, Tary Burgess, Safia, Hana and Isaam Elogbi, Grace and Isabella Burgess; and her brother Gary Pearson. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Burgess, and her husband George Burgess.
