Florence Hughes was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts July 9, 1928. She graduated from Framingham State College in Massachusetts in 1950 and completed a Dietetic internship at Hines Veteran’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in 1951. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and was employed at OHSU for 26 years where she was a member of the Dietetic Internship Teaching staff. She also had been employed as a dietician for Providence Hospital in Portland and Veteran’s hospitals in Vancouver, Washington and Richmond, Virginia. In 1954 she married Jerry Powell who died in 1959 when his fighter plane had a mechanical failure after takeoff from the Portland Air National Guard Air Base. She is survived by her son, James and her daughter in law, Patricia.
