Our mother, Genevieve Robb, peacefully passed away at her home in Tigard, Oregon on May 9, 2014, surrounded by the love and comfort of her daughters.
Genevieve was born in Minot, North Dakota, to George and Blanche Nelson. Along with her parents, she and her older brother, Larry, and younger sister, Ruth, moved to Oregon when Genevieve was twelve. Genevieve was active in Four H, and earned numerous awards during her teen years. She graduated from Grant High School and worked for a year following her graduation to earn money to fund her tuition to Oregon State College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.
Genevieve treasured her role as mother to her three girls “Kathy, Patty and Sandy”. In the early years, she focused all her efforts as a stay-at-home-mom. Mom made sure we had many opportunities to participate in activities of all kinds: Girl Scouts, piano lessons, tap, ballet, baton and softball, to name a few. When her youngest daughter was in second grade, Mom spread her wings into the working world as a cook for the Lake Oswego School District because she could do so and still be home when we went to school in the morning and when we returned in the afternoon. When we were older, Mom accepted the position as School Food Service Administrator for the Tigard-Tualatin School District, where she served for 19 years. She loved her work with TTSD, especially all of her relationships with her coworkers.
After retirement, Genevieve kept very busy volunteering in the community. She was active in Tigard Christian Church. Genevieve was also active in the Oregon Retired Educators Association, including serving terms as the Association’s president and treasurer. Additionally, Mom volunteered regularly at the Tigard Senior Center. In addition to these activities, Genevieve was very involved the lives of her grandchildren…taking them to various extra- curricular activities, volunteering in their classrooms, taking them to various lessons, and just loving them.
Genevieve is survived by her beloved siblings: Larry (Anita) Nelson and Ruth (George) Chadwick; her children: Kathleen (Derenda) Robb; Patricia (Robert) Brown; Sandra (Robert) Galati; grandchildren: Grendel, Rowen, Tatum, Alexis, Andrew and Aubrey; five nieces and two nephews; and numerous friends accumulated throughout her lifetime. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
A memorial service for Genevieve will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Tigard Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Oregon Retired Educators Association Unit 34 Scholarship Fund, care of: Nancy Lewis, 16730 SW Jordan Way, King City - Portland, OR 97224. or the charity of your choice.
