For those who were acquainted with this man, he was often told he had kind eyes and a warm, ready smile. He enjoyed humor and laughter and his quick wit captured everyone's attention.
His nature was to help a neighbor or friend oftentimes without their asking him such as raking the leaves in the street, cleaning a plugged gutter on a neighbor's house, helping to build a fence, or helping to paint a house, as examples. He had a passion for working in his yard and he could be out enjoying the fruit of his labor for hours.
His four grandchildren delighted him with their antics and silliness, and he was always willing to be challenged to a game with them. He was very proud to see them grow into young adults.
One of his most pleasing hobbies was piecing jigsaw puzzles together. When he finished one, he would begin on another immediately which he was able to do until a few months before his end of life.
At this time a memorial service has not been scheduled. If you have a memory you'd like to share, please add it to his webpage.
If you are inclined, expressions of condolence may be sent to OHSU Foundation Alzheimer's in Jerry's name.
