Gordon was born in Longview, WA. Raised in Ryderwood, WA., the worlds largest logging town at that time. Then moved to Portland in 1942. He grew up in North Portland and attended Jefferson High School where he excelled in football.
Met his high school sweet heart in 1942, Gerry, who was a Rose Festival Princess in 1946. Joined the Navy in 1947 where he served 4 years and was a Korean veteran.
After serving his time in the Navy, returned home to raise a family. Went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell in 1953 where he followed his Mother (Lillian Hovies). Continued to work for Pacific Northwest Bell until his retirement in 1987.
Moved to Tigard in 1964 where he lived with Gerry the remainder of his life. Gordon and Gerry have been married for 63 years.
He was very active in Youth Programs through out Portland and Tigard where he coached his three sons. He coached basketball in Portland where he was City Champs in Golden Ball. In addition, coached Baseball while living in Portland (Madison and Wellington Park) and held the league Title for his teams in the Tigard area, and coached several district all star teams in both Little League and Babe Ruth. His passion was his yard, his cars and watching sports.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine, sons, Gary (Pam), Greg (Jeanee), Gordon , 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be March 6, 2013, at 2 pm, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
