He was born December 26, 1945 in New York City to Harry D Meyer and Vera (McKeon) Meyer. He grew up in the borough of Queens, fairly close to where Shea Stadium was built.
Although he had a physical proximity to the home of the Mets, he was a lifelong Yankees fan.
He started his college years at St Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, but after helping his mother when his father died, he resumed his studies at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire. There, a professor inspired him and he received his degree in history.
After graduation, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. After completing commissary school, he went to his first duty station in Kodak, Alaska. Two years later, he was transferred to Bodega Bay, California.
Upon returning to New York, he began a career as a claims adjuster. He enjoyed the many hours of meeting with both claimants and policyholders.
He married Linda MacLean in 1978 in California.
While busy with work, and parenting two active children, he found time to volunteer coach in youth sports, including soccer, a sport he was not that familiar with. He was more familiar with basketball, and coached that sport for several years. He also became involved with the religious education programs in his parish, continuing to volunteer long after the children had completed their religious education.
Along the way, he developed an interest in family history. One of his greatest genealogy successes was being able to connect with living relatives in Germany, attending two family reunions in Germany and visiting the churches his ancestors were baptized, confirmed and married in. He also served on the board of directors as president of the Genealogical Society of Washington County Oregon.
Harry is survived by his wife, Linda, his children Harry and Robin, and two grandchildren, A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Young's Funeral Home in Tigard at one pm. His ashes will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery.
