

Mr. Soumie was born February 18, 1928 in Portland to Howard and Gertrude (Sacrasen) Soumie. He attended Roosevelt High School before joining the US Army and serving in the Japan Occupation Force. After his military service he became a motorcycle policeman in Portland, a position he proudly held for thirty years before retiring in 1979. In 1964 he married Edith Galloway in Stevenson, WA. Mr. Soumie was a prominent handball player for many years, was active in his community, and enjoyed spending time with his large extended family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edith Soumie of Portland;
four children, and four stepchildren, Cathy Jack, Mike Galloway, Cary Galloway, and David Galloway;
ten grandchildren,
Kim, Michelle, Anna, Kate, Amy, Thomas, Amanda, Nathan, Heather, and Lindsay;
and ten great-grandchildren, Serena, Dakota, Cody, Aiden, Colin, Brennan, Nikolai, river, Gracie, and Bella.
Mr. Soumie will be laid to rest privately at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division, 687 N. Thompson St., Portland, OR 97227.
