Joseph John Dunn, 87, of Lake Oswego, Ore., passed away Dec. 9, 2023. He was born July 18, 1936, in Watertown, S.D., to Joseph and Vyonne Dunn. Joe was a loving husband to Mary Dunn for 59 years and a devoted father to Marie, Jennifer, Joseph Dunn (Nichole), and Theresa Bezayiff (Michael). He was also a cherished grandfather to Tristen Bezayiff, Baxter, Cambria, and Hypatia Dunn.
Joe was a respected and loved member of the community. He took pride in his work and hobbies, always striving to be a lifelong learner and maker. Joe was a regular attendee of Library hour every week and enjoyed building boats, ham radios, and machining. He had a passion for learning and was known for his favorite sayings, "In God we Trust. All others we monitor," "Who's The Boss? The customer!" and "Three magic words...I'll be back."
Joe furthered his education at Devry Technical Institute and later the University of Oregon, where he studied Business. In his early years, Joe served in the Army Security Agency RA and UNASG (AIS). He was honorably discharged and proud of his military associations. Joe had a successful career as the Vice President in Merchandising at Safeway Grocer, where he worked for many years until his retirement. He was highly regarded by his colleagues and was known for his dedication and love for his work. Joe had a deep love for his faith and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where he worshipped.
In his free time, Joe enjoyed various hobbies. He served as the Chairman of shotgun at TCGC for over 30 years and was an NSSA shooting coach. He also held the position of Director at Arrowhead Golf Club. Joe's dedication and expertise in these roles earned him awards, including induction into the OSSA Hall of Fame Leadership/Volunteer as well as the OSSA director for Tri-County Gun Club. He was a passionate hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Joe also had a keen interest in ham radio, photography, and skeet shooting.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, family man, and a mentor to many. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Dunn; siblings, Colleen Miller, Karen Read, Cheryl Gates, Monica Breedlove; and his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Vyonne Dunn; and his brother, Robert Dunn.
