Joyce Jean Sherman was born in Greenwood, Oklahoma. Her parents were Samuel Jobe Phillips and Reba Mae (Carter) Phillips. Joyce moved to California and graduated from high school in the city of Chowchilla. In 1967 Joyce and her family moved to Oregon where she married her second husband Mr. Charles William Sherman. Joyce was a homemaker who loved and cherished her family. She was always working on some new creative craft project. The family also enjoyed her wonderful skills as an artist. They have many items of her handy work to cherish. She also had another love: the ocean view outside the window of a casino at the Oregon Coast. It was her delight to visit the coast as often as possible.
Joyce is survived by her husband and sweetheart: Charles William Sherman; daughter: Beth Gutierrez of Lake Oswego and Son: David Powers of Gladstone. Another son Michael Powers passed away in 2008. Joyce is also survived by four adoring grandchildren: Jenifer, Natalie, Seanna and Katelin and one very sweet and special great grandchild Lanie. There are numerous other step children and step grandchildren
Joyce passed away after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer. She had been diagnosed just a few days ago. Her family misses her incredibly. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and beloved grandmother. Joyce will always hold a very special place in the hearts of the loved ones she left behind. At the families request there will be no public services.
