Katie’s life took her all over the country. She grew up outside of Chicago and made her way to Oregon with her brothers to finish high school. After graduation, Katie lived in Colorado, spent 15 years in Maine, then moved to Florida, Texas, and ended her lifelong tour back in Oregon. Katie touched the lives of so many across the country and carried those memories with her through each season of her life.
Although many have grown to know Katie as the life of the party, there was so much more to her than met the eye. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She loved her family more than anything and was the light in most rooms. She also lived for the beach and loved a Sunday nap right before settling in to watch her beloved Patriots play. She was an avid reader and did the crossword with a pen everyday and loved any animal she came in contact with, especially her cherished pup, Jack.
Katie had many loves in her life but none so great as the love she had for her two daughters, Kelly and Abby, her girly girls. Even though they spent most of their lives living in different states, they shared summers at the beach and holidays counting decorated palm trees and it was perfect. While Katie didn’t get much time with her grandchildren, Tommy and Sarah will always remember the sound of Grandma’s laugh. The traditions and memories Kelly and Abby hold so dear will be shared for generations to come and are Katie’s legacy.
Katie was predeceased by her father, Gerard Meyer; her mother, Gloria Hans Meyer; and her siblings, Timothy, Mary, Thomas, and Christopher Meyer . She is survived by her children, Kelly Burrows Dorsey and husband, Ian, their two children, Thomas and Sarah, of Cumberland, ME; Abigail Burrows and her partner, Rob Puterbaugh, of Bath, ME; her siblings, Teresa Meyer and husband, Luis Piñero of Madison, WI, their son and his wife, Emilio and Clare Piñero of St. Louis, MO; Anne Meyer of San Antonio, TX and her son and his family, Tim and Kari Hair and their children, Eleanor and George, of Midland, TX; James Meyer of Benton, KY; and Edward Meyer of Tampa, FL and his children, Jonathan and Gabriella; and Katie’s stepmother, Katherine Meyer of Plant City, FL.
A special thank you to the team at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center in Tualatin, OR for taking such great care of Katie and keeping her comfort a top priority during these last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to a local animal shelter.
