Kathleen Mengelkoch was born in Spokane, Washington on March 14, 1929 to Emil and Leila Freed. She was the second youngest in a family of seven children.
Later, Kathleen married George Mengelkoch shortly after he got out of the military. They went on to have four children: Connie, Teresa, Polly and Kathryn. Kathleen was a stay-at-home mother until around the time her children started high school. When she decided to join the workforce, she quickly found a job with the Multnomah County Welfare Department, where she worked until retirement.
In her spare time, Kathleen loved to read mystery/ FBI novels and enjoyed playing BINGO. She was a devout Catholic; a loving, caring and nurturing mother and grandmother and a huge lover of cats.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, George Mengelkoch. She is survived by: daughters: Connie Whipple, Teresa (Joseph) Guante, Polly Bich and Kathryn Hill; grandchildren: Fred Rizk, Cindy Bryan, Debbie Bich, Laura Bish, Benjamin Kohler, Leilah Rizk, Evan Whipple and Maria (Joseph) Gonzales and great-grandson, Carter Bryan.
A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 15651 SW Oregon St., Sherwood.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Catholic Charities or the Oregon Humane Society.
