

Kathryn Laura Wells, age 100 of King City, Oregon, passed away on October 27th, 2025. Kathryn was born in Greys Harbor, Washington on April 26 1925, the daughter of Frank Thomas and Clara Benson Thomas. Kathryn graduated high school in 1942 and subsequently joined an Army cadet program for nursing school. After three years, Kathryn completed the program very shortly before the end of World War II. According to Kathryn, "I was packed up and ready to join the Army, but the war was over."
Kathryn went on to take classes in psychiatry and ultimately became a psychiatric registered nurse. Kathryn Had a great love of music and sang with the Portland Orchestra and Portland Opera. She was also an accomplished artist and completed many remarkable paintings. Kathryn met her husband Arlen when she was singing in Washington Park. They were later married in 1954. Kathryn retired from the Holliday Park Hospital as a Psychiatric Charge RN in 1994. She loved to explore and her travels took her across Europe including England, Germany, Italy and Czechoslovakia, where her father was born.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Arlen Wells, and her sons Robert Wells and Ralph Wells. She is survived by two nieces, Barbara Wittwer and Gayle Thomas, and numerous great nephews and nieces.
