March 2, 1957 – October 13, 2026
Kenneth Duane Martin was born on March 2, 1957, in Clarkston, Washington to Patricia and Stanley Martin. He was the “number 2 son” as he would refer to himself of four boys.
Ken spent much of his school years in Lake Oswego attending River Grove Elementary School, Waluga Junior High before graduating from Lakeridge High School in 1975
During his years at Lakeridge Ken was an outstanding athlete and a genuinely kind, friendly person. He had a natural ability to connect with people, and his warm personality made him well liked by everyone who knew him. Ken had a large circle of friends and was the kind of person people were naturally drawn to.
Ken built his career in the grocery industry, working as a meat manager at numerous local stores throughout the years, including Rosewood Grocery, Durst’s Thriftway, West Linn Thriftway, Wizer’s, Bale’s Thriftway, Haggen’s and New Seasons Markets.
Throughout his career, he built relationships with coworkers and customers and became familiar with the community.
In his later years Ken found new ways to connect with and care for others. He drove a school bus in Redmond and Oregon City and loved the children he transported. He also transported patients on behalf of Marquis Companies. He enjoyed listening to the stories his passengers shared along the way and getting to know the people he met. His genuine interest in others and his friendly nature made these roles more than just a job.
Outside of work, one of his favorite pastimes was salmon fishing on the Siletz River.
It was a place where he could enjoy his love of fishing, and he knew all his fellow anglers.
He also enjoyed motorcycle rides with his brother, Steve, and friends. Making homemade sausage, pepperoni and jerky with Roger to share with family and friends put a big smile on his face.
Ken had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, whether through a conversation, a shared meal, a day of fishing, or simply being a friend. His life touched many people, and the memories he created will live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Though his passing was sudden and unexpected, he leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendships and love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those lives he touched.
Ken leaves behind his loving wife of 16 years, Karen; his mother, Patt Bowlsby; his sons, AJ (Jamie) and Eric (Sarah); and his stepson Victor (Sara).
He was a proud grandfather to Addison, Tucker, Nate, and Henry. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike (Nieda), Randy (Lisa), and Steve (Lisa) along with many extended family members and dear friends.
