Kim Eileen (Gregg) Laskey was born on March 25, 1957 to Eldon and Justine (Johnson) Gregg in Portland, Oregon. She was the baby of 6 other siblings and grew up in SE Portland. While in high school she met her high school sweetheart and future husband Randy Laskey in their home economics class. They married on August 23rd 1975 and the following year welcomed their first son Jay. In that year they moved from SE Portland and made their home in Oregon City. Ten years later they would welcome three additional children, Chad, Lindsay and Ali who completed their family unit.
Motherhood meant the world to Kim, she had an unbelievable ability to balance it all at home, making it look easy. In addition to always looking put together herself with her make-up and matching outfits. Whether it was making a homemade batch of cookies each week or organizing a family event. Kim truly was a supermom, who was devoted to her children which included PTA meetings, auctions, carnivals, scout leader and resident neighborhood mom. Kim not only loved her own children but was kind, caring and loving to all the neighborhood children and her children’s friends. Her ability to juggle it all and high energy was unlike any other, many asked “how did she do it all?” She never missed an opportunity to welcome someone in her home and offer them a sandwich or something to eat. Many of her children’s friends would all agree that Kim made the best macaroni and cheese.
She loved being a parent and as her children got married Kim was even more anxious to become a grandmother. She loved her 7 grandchildren and would try to spend as much time with them as possible. Again, family was everything to her and she loved babies!
Kim loved Disneyland and it was truly magical family time with the best memories made. She loved It’s a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean and most of the kiddy rides. Kim made long lasting relationships wherever life took her, even at Disneyland with some of the staff there. Her favorite Disney character was Mickey Mouse and she had an upstairs guest bedroom dedicated to her love of Disney.
Another special place for Kim was Maui, Hawaii where she and her family would travel yearly around Mother’s Day. The entire time Kim would make wonderful meals for her family throughout the vacation. Many of her children’s friends got to vacation with them as a family, because in Kim’s perspective it made the trip even more wonderful. Birthdays were another occasion where she ensure to give back to the ones she loved. Always making them feel extra special with presents, balloons and poster signs.
Holidays were special because it meant even more time with those she loved. She would decorate the inside and outside of the house, prepare a family feast and spend hour’s carefully wrapping presents. She loved to give to others and truly demonstrated that throughout her entire life. Even when she was receiving treatments it was very important to her that her medical care team had thank you cards, flowers or even lunch as a way to show her appreciation for them. She would do this for the school janitor, hairstylist, gym trainer, etc. If you were a part of Kim’s life she probably made you something to eat or thanked you in some unique way.
After a very strong fight against her illness and decline in health, Kim never lost sight of her values- giving and caring for others. She passed away surrounded by those she loved on October 30, 2017 at OHSU in Portland, Oregon. With her passing, Kim continued to give by being an Organ Donor and continue her legacy of helping someone else, which she would have been very proud. The family is planning a celebration of life sometime in December.
