When he was 18, he enrolled in the Marine Corps. He served from January 1964 to March 1968 and was ranked Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War and received the National Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with One Star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was proud to serve his Country.
He moved from Wisconsin to Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University with an Engineering degree in 1974. He was married to his wife, Angela for 50 years. They married in 1972 and had two daughters (Adrienne and Jill). Larry had a career at Bonneville Power Administration before leaving and starting an engineering consulting firm with his partners, Regulatory and Cogeneration Services. After a successful career, he retired in 1995.
Larry enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He was athletic all of his life and played racquetball, and handball, lifted weights, and bicycled. Later in life, he went on daily walks and enjoyed hiking and nature. He was also talented at woodworking. He made some beautiful things for his family like a large dollhouse, babydoll cribs, a zoo-themed toy chest, and a rocking horse that is still cherished and used today. He had a great sense of humor and would always be joking around, especially in text messages.
Larry was always helping people and spreading his love of Jesus. Even on hospice care, he was concerned for the welfare of others. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and more recently his great-grandchildren. Christmas was his favorite time and he especially enjoyed listening to Christmas music and decorating outside- even getting up on the extension ladder to hang Christmas lights when he had a fear of heights. He was an avid gardener and had a beautiful yard full of flowers and plants. A hummingbird was always in their front yard, and he said it was his guardian angel.
Larry will be forever missed and always remembered. He is survived by his wife Angela and children, Adrienne and Jill (Travis) Stewart, five Grandchildren, and two Great-grandchildren; his siblings Gary (Joyce), Nadine Rushton, Dennis, Corrine Kuhlhanek, Deborah (Ronald) Olson, Douglas (Amy), Todd (Kate) and Troy; Brother-in-Law Bill Curwick, Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers: Hughie, Dean, Robert (Bobby), Charles, and his sister, Sandra Curwick.
Fear though not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee. Isaiah 41:10
What is Love?
Love is a gleam in a special friend’s eye, Love is a breeze Blowing through a large oak tree, Love is a heart That overflows with joy, Love is hard work and sweat on one’s brow, Love is knowing that God cares.
