Lenora “Lee” Kirouac passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at a care facility in Sherwood, OR after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Sharon Wood, son-in-law Tim Wood and her grandsons Geoffrey and Cameron Wood. They are forever grateful that she chose to join them in Oregon more than 20 years ago. The daughter of Frank and Myrtle Pickering of Elmira, NY Lee grew up with four older brothers - Frank Jr., Lloyd, Harry, and Pick (Claire). After leaving Elmira in her twenties Lee married Spencer Kirouac and resided in Arlington, MA for more than forty years. Lee worked as an accounting clerk and as a business partner with Spencer at their heating and air conditioning company. They had one daughter, Sharon Wood. Many summers were enjoyed by Lee, Spencer, and Sharon at the cottage on Blaisdell Lake in Sutton, NH. Spencer and Lee also enjoyed getting away from the long winters of New England by spending time in Lake Worth, FL.

Some of Lee’s favorite pastimes included spending time with her family and friends, traveling, watching sports, reading, doting on animals of all sorts, and enjoying the outdoors. Nothing made her happier than being with, and cheering on, her two grandsons as they grew up. She never missed a theater performance of Geoffrey’s or a sporting event of Cameron’s. Yes, she was that grandma in the stands yelling “great pitch Cameron, strike ‘em out!”. Lee was so proud of her grandson’s accomplishments and the wonderful young men they had become.

During her many decades in MA she became an avid Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots fan. New England Patriots (now Tampa Bay) Quarterback Tom Brady was her man. No one was allowed to say a bad word about Tom! The traveling bug was in her blood. Lee had her suitcase packed at the mere mention of a trip. She and Spencer traveled to many locations in Europe, the Virgin Islands, and in the United States. If there was a dog or cat that needed a treat, to be petted, or rescued, Lee was there. She enjoyed many years with her cat Sam and was the official pet sitter for her Tim and Sharon’s dog Blue. Although Lee was not a gardener, she thoroughly enjoyed visiting local gardens with her daughter and receiving bouquets of flowers. And it should also be mentioned that Lee and Tim often shared their love of martinis together!

At Lee’s request there will not be a service. Her ashes will be scattered this summer at her favorite location on Blaisdell Lake in Sutton, NH. In her remembrance please consider a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue group such as the CAT Adoption Team, 14175 Galbreath Drive, Sherwood, OR 97140 or the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 SE Columbia Blvd., Portland, OR 97211.
