

Lloyd Arthur Chittenden was born in Aberdeen, Wash. to Paul and Deloris (Haynes) Chittenden on February 28, 1927. He grew up in Newberg, Oregon where he graduated from Newberg High School. He was a team member of the Newberg football team, which was the last time that Newberg won the state title.
Lloyd moved to San Francisco, Calif., where he graduated from the St. Francis Hotel’s culinary arts institute. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marine Service as a chief cook and served on three different U.S. merchant ships from 1942-1944.
After the war, Lloyd moved back to the Portland area and worked for Jake’s Oyster Bar in Portland as a chef. He then was the chef at Erikson’s Restaurant on Barber Blvd. in SW Portland. He was the only chef there from the day it opened until the day it closed. He then went to work for the Elks Lodge in Beaverton, again as a chef, where he was well known for his soups.
Lloyd enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing. He enjoyed his dogs.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Evelyn (Butler) Chittenden; five sons: David, Kenneth, Bruce, Garth, and Steve; one daughter: Marnie (Chittenden) Ragsdale; and three step daughters: Donna (Court) Pearson, Patricia (Court) Russell, and Cheryl (Court) Arsenault. He is also survived by his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Young’s Funeral Home at SW Pacific Hwy. and SW Warner Ave. in Tigard on October 14, 2015 at 11 AM. Following this service, Lloyd will be laid to rest with military honors at the Willamette National Cemetery at 2 PM.
