Lorraine Stahr, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, colleague and neighbor, passed away in Salem Oregon on Christmas Day after an extended illness. She was 92. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
As a long-term survivor of breast cancer, she faced the challenges of her health with courage and perseverance. Despite the lingering physical effects of cancer therapy, Lorraine was a dynamic force.
Family gatherings for birthdays and holidays were a staple in her life that created cherished memories. Her music, whether she was singing, playing the piano, or strumming the ukulele, brought joy and warmth to her home. As a member of her church community, Lorraine especially enjoyed singing with the local choir.
A dedicated gardener, she once sold her homegrown produce at farmers markets. She also canned foods, baked bread, helped raise cattle, crafted handmade items, and displayed a remarkable knack for remodeling. She found solace in hiking, photography, and botany, and in her youth, enjoyed water skiing and was a member of the French Club. Her passion for knitting made her an expert in crafting warm winter socks.
Lorraine and Howard met and married in California and ultimately chose to settle in Oregon. Lorraine proudly earned a Bachelor of Science degree and later achieved her degree in Naturopathy. She dedicated her skills to enhancing watershed resources in the State of Oregon until her retirement in 1994.
Known for her winsome smile, outgoing nature, and witty humor, Lorraine made friends wherever her journey took her. Her legacy of virtue and resilience continues to inspire those who knew her.
Lorraine is now at peace in God’s care, reunited with her parents, in-laws, two siblings, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter. Her spirit lives on through her loving husband and five cherished children, as well as two brothers, nine grandchildren, a great-grandson, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring friends, neighbors, healthcare workers and others who supported Lorraine in recent years. Your kindness and patience has meant the world to her and her family.
Please feel free to leave a message below for her family.
