Margaret Pruett, 98, of Tigard Oregon passed away peacefully in her own home on January 13, 2019. She was incredibly healthy throughout her life until nearly the end. She had a sharp and funny wit and was an extremely kind person. Born in 1920, she experienced farm life in Illinois as a child, riding her horse to school and living in a house with an outdoor water pump. Life was hard during that time, but her family always had plenty of food. Margaret received her college teaching certificate and taught grade school until WWII when she married Floyd. She spent the time during the war crisscrossing the country by car following her husband’s military assignments and later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Floyd and Margaret were married for 70 years until his passing in 2012.
After the war, they decided to leave Illinois and move to the Pacific Northwest for the beautiful scenery and weather. They raised two daughters there, both of whom currently live in Oregon. After retirement, they traveled extensively to all the continents, often with tour groups or with friends. Margaret also loved being at home on the Summerfield golf course and spending time with her neighbors, friends and family. Golf, bridge, sewing, crafts and square dancing were favorite hobbies. She even made all of Floyd’s and her outfits for square dancing. Her family always thought Margaret was the best-dressed person in the room.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Pace (Steve Kimple) and Gail Miller (Bill Miller), 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm, Friday, January 25. A burial service will follow at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park at 2:00 pm.
