Mel was an avid sailor, a pirate born two hundred years too late. He was happiest on a boat, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Mel and his wife, Bev, were stalwart members of the Sauvie Island Yacht Club from the 1990's to 2010's. Mel loved nothing more than having his feet in the sand, watching a sunset with a fine shot of tequila and a good Cuban cigar.
Mel is survived and dearly missed by his wife Bev Benedict; Children Kaethe Graves and her husband Ron Graves, Stacie Hartman and her husband James Hewett; Grandchildren Reyna Chabbert, Erin Graves and Caleb Graves; Great Grandchildren Claire, Audrey, Riley, Carter and one more on the way! He is also survived by his cousins Julie, Jordan, Melanie, Coz, and Madz.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 24th at 4PM in the home of Stacie and James.
In lieu of cards or flowers, please donate to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation to support research for a cure.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.youngsfuneralhome.org for the Benedict family.
