

Melvin was Born on Dec. 6 1918 to Agnes and Melvin Tennent Sr. in Seattle Wash., one of seven children. Melvin attended Stadium High and U of W. At age 23 he went off to war with the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Melvin served in both the Pacific theater at Okinawa and Iwo Jima and also in the European theater at France and Italy. He was promoted to the rank of Major just a few days before his 28th birthday. Melvin was a scratch golfer most of his life. At wars end he was asked by the Army to work with Robert T. Jones in designing and building golf courses for many Army post around the U.S.
After leaving the Army Melvin went into the insurance adjusting business and moved his family from Montana to Portland in 1957. Boating and golf were passions of both Melvin and his wife, Jane for many years.
Melvin is survived by his sister, Joanne; his son, Stephen; and daughter, Barbara Anderson. He had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends where he lived at Edgewood Point.
