Michael Joseph Adams, known affectionately as Mike, passed away on November 11, 2023, in King City, Oregon. He was born on September 16, 1945, in Portland, Oregon. Mike was a caring and handsome gentleman who deeply loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his loving nature, hard work, and generosity.
Mike grew up in Portland and graduated from Central Catholic High School before attending the University of Portland. He shared a special bond with his father and played golf with him every Sunday. In a memorable golf tournament, Mike emerged victorious against his father, although both played their best and neither wanted to win against each other. He inherited his father's athleticism and excelled in golf, football, and baseball.
Professionally, Mike owned a successful fencing company and later worked as a lumber broker until his retirement in the late 90s. However, his true passion lay in being a loving father to his children. He introduced them to the game of golf, with his daughter often serving as his caddy. Mike ensured that his children had a wonderful childhood, spending quality time with them on vacations at the beach.
In an unfortunate turn of events, after retiring, Mike fell ill with an infection during a vacation to Las Vegas. Despite doctors predicting a grim outcome, he defied the odds and recovered, the doctors referred to him as a "walking miracle." Although he woke up from a semi-comatose state paralyzed from the neck down, Mike refused to accept the doctors' prognosis of remaining quadriplegic. He underwent physical rehabilitation and continued to pursue his passion for golfing.
Inspired by his own experience, Mike founded the Mobility Impaired Golf Association (MIGA), a non-profit organization supporting individuals with mobility impairments in playing golf. MIGA has become Oregon's most prominent program for disabled golfers, thanks to Mike's dedication and love for organizing various holiday events and tournaments. Sadly MIGA shut its doors after Mike's passing.
Mike is survived and dearly missed by his wife, two brothers, one sister, two children, and his three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one of his sisters and three beloved children.
Mike Adams will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a determined advocate for disabled golfers.
