Mildred grew up in Fairview, Oregon, where she attended Fairview grade school and later Gresham High School. Even in those early years, her energy and willingness to try new things were evident—she took an interest in acrobatics during high school, a reflection of the quiet courage and curiosity that would continue to shape her life.
Over the years, Mildred built a life marked by steady work and dependable care for others. She worked in restaurants as a waitress and later served as a cook in a middle school, roles that required long hours, patience, and a thoughtful attention to the needs of those around her. In retirement, she turned more fully toward the pursuits that brought her joy and kept her hands and mind engaged.
Mildred married Don Collicott in 1955, and later married Armand Pilotte in 1993. She was the mother of three children: daughter Cindy (born 1956), son Chris (born 1958), and daughter Cathy (born 1965). Mildred’s devotion to her family was constant, and her gentle spirit shone most clearly in the love she held for her children and grandchildren. She was especially delighted by visits, and her excitement at seeing them was a lasting gift to those who knew her best.
Mildred’s interests were many and varied. She enjoyed Amateur Radio, cottonwood bark carving, sewing, camping, pistol shooting, Sunday drives, and gardening. Whether creating something with care, spending time outdoors, or simply taking a drive, Mildred approached life with a calm steadiness and an open, adventurous heart.
She also gave her time and leadership to the communities that mattered to her. Mildred was involved with the Quarter Century Wireless Association, the Mcminnville Amateur Radio Club—where she served as Club President for two years—the Hoodview Amateur Radio Club, the McMinnville Carving Club, and the Yamhill County Shooters Association. Her participation reflected not only her dedication to her interests, but also her respect for fellowship and shared purpose.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the Brighton Hospice Care Team for the personal care given to Mildred, including her pain control and other medical issues. Special thanks are offered to her daughter Cathy and Andrew Shafe, who provided 24-hour care during her last two weeks of life and were largely responsible for Mildred having a peaceful and painfree passing.
