Nhung Thi Tran

Tran Thi Nhung was born on February 27, 1937, in Binh Sa – Phat Diem, Vietnam. She passed away on September 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and deep care for her family and community.

She was married to Mai Van Quynh, who was declared missing in action during the Vietnam War in 1975. That same year, Nhung immigrated to the United States with her children, first settling in Salem, Oregon, before eventually making Portland her home. She raised nine children—three daughters and six sons—on her own, always putting their needs first. She was the heart of the family and played a central role in keeping everyone connected.

Nhung was a homemaker, known for her love of cooking. She made traditional Vietnamese meals with care and skill, but also had a fondness for McDonald’s fish sandwiches and sausages—favorites she never gave up. She was proud of her heritage and passed on her love of Vietnamese culture to her children and grandchildren.

A devout Christian, Nhung’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She made sure her family stayed close to the church, praying together and attending services regularly. She was an active member of the Vietnamese Community Church and gave generously—both her time and whatever she could afford—to support its mission.

She was especially proud of her youngest son, who held a special place in her heart. His passing in 2023 from kidney failure at the age of 51 deeply affected her, and her health declined in the time that followed.

Nhung is survived by seven of her children, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her strength, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.

A funeral mass for nhung tran will occur Friday, September 19, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church and School, 9905 SW McKenzie St, Tigard, OR 97223.
