

Paul was born on the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul, to Johann and Elisabeth Meermeier in Telgte, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Paul served briefly as a pilot in the German military and after the war graduated as a master auto mechanic. On July 6, 1953 Paul married Margret Wilhelmina Niepagenkemper in Telgte and within a few weeks they immigrated to New Jersey. In 1954 they moved to Portland
For 43 years Paul worked in the auto industry for the Don Rasmussen Companies. He was widely respected and recognized for his knowledge and expertise as the parts manager for Mercedes-Benz.
Paul was a parishioner and choir member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie for 28 years. He was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and resident of Tigard for the past 22 years.
Paul is survived by his wife Margret, children: Paul Jr. (Nancy), Judy Cook (Steve), and Tina Herbison (Dave) and grandchildren: Chris and Nick Meermeier; Aaron, Lauren, and Kathryn Cook; and Maria and Emily Herbison and his sister Käthe Scholten of Germany.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilhelm and Heinrich.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Young’s Funeral Home, 11831 SW Pacific Hwy, Tigard.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Tigard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anthony Church Building fund or Providence Hospice Foundation
