

Richard Joseph Hofmann died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 of congestive heart failure at the age of 93. He was born in Portland, Oregon in 1919 and spent his early childhood in Tillamook, moving to Portland for his school years. He graduated from Columbia Preparatory and the University of Portland, then served in the Navy during WWII as an officer on a minesweep stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the war he returned to Portland to run the family real estate business, which he managed until his death. He was an active member of Saint Anthony Parish in Tigard, Oregon for more than fifty years.
Richard was pre-deceased by his wife of 44 years, Toni Hofmann; an infant son, Matthew; and his brother, Father Stephen Hofmann, OSB of the Abbey at Mount Angel, Oregon. He is survived by his four children: Lynn Bateman of Portland, Oregon; Michelle Hofmann of Portland, Oregon; Mark Hofmann of New Canaan, Connecticut and Marleine Hofmann of Weston, Connecticut; four grandchildren and a great grandson. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Blanchet House of Hospitality of Portland.
