Robert James Atkinson Jr.

Robert James Atkinson, Jr., 68, of Lake Oswego, Oregon passed away on September 12, 2013.

He was born in Portland, Oregon on October 10, 1944 to Robert Sr. and Dorothy (Krumholz) Atkinson. Bob graduated from Wilson High School in Portland, OR in 1963 and married Karen Springer on December 28th 1968. In 1966 Bob was drafted into the US Army and served time in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Bob worked as a marine machinist for various Portland based ship yard companies and ended his career in 2002 when he retired. He was a devoted family man and loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was a man of simple pleasures but aimed to please all and was always helping others with any job large or small.

Bob is survived by his wife; Karen Atkinson, children; Kevin and Tim, sisters; Peggy Goodrich and Lynda Trost; June his mother-in-law, and 5 grandchildren.

A drop in celebration of life will be held for Bob on September 19th, 2013 from 3pm-5pm at Young’s Funeral Home at 11831 SW Pacific Highway, Tigard, OR 97223.

Our prayers are with you all. I had the great pleasure to work with Bobby at Northwest Marine Iron Works Ship repair yard. He was the best of the best at his job and would always help anyone anytime.He was probably the nicest guy I have ever met, I am so glad I had the pleasure of knowing and working with such a wonderful man.
