Ronald Edward Popick (July 16, 1948 - June 27, 2020)
Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, son and friend. A third generation Oregonian, he was born and raised in Portland, OR. Ron graduated Wilson High School, was a proud Eagle Scout and a Vietnam Army combat veteran (11B-5U). Ron was happy to serve his community as President of Portland Civic Theatre, and a member of Portland Active 20/30 Club. He dedicated his life to his three children, encouraging them in whatever hairbrained endeavour on which they chose to embark. He raised his children alongside his wife of 44 years and exemplified modern fatherhood when that role was only beginning to take shape. A successful Realtor, he worked tirelessly to “Make Your Next Move, A Move for the Better” for 28 years, working under the brokerages Craig Cooley, Stan Wiley, and John L. Scott. A fabulous home chef, Ron loved adventuring in the culinary arts, and was continually in pursuit of the perfectly ripe seasonal fruit, the consummate meal, or mastery of the quintessential scone recipe. But his insatiable appetite was not just one for good food, it was equally one for the good company that came along with it. He surrounded himself with wonderful friends who frequently celebrated life’s ups and downs over a well-cooked meal. He kept those friends in stitches with his wry, satirical sense of humor. Ron had strongly held beliefs in the potential for human goodness, the power of logic and reasoning, and the clear line between right and wrong. He was the embodiment of goodwill and generosity. His death is preceded by that of his parents, Irv and Jean, his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Geary, Roger and Susan, and his beloved nephew Troy. He is survived by his wife, Kelley, his sister Laurie, his children Suzanne, Becca and Dustin, his sons-in-law Brendan and Chris, and grandchildren, Frances, Felix, and Benson, and countless heartbroken friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Oregon Public Broadcasting would honor Ron’s love of science, learning, and the pursuit of truth, or the Portland VA to thank his dedicated doctors for giving us an extra decade. A virtual service will be held on his birthday, details can be found at Young’s Funeral Home.
The Popick family invites you to join them in a virtual Zoom service for Ron on July 16, 2020 at 1:30pm Pacific time. Please click the following link to join on the day and time of the service.
