Sandra Lee Zahnle, age 74, of Tigard Oregon, passed away on May 6th, 2016. She was born in Highland Park, Illinois on November 3rd, 1941. The Zahnle family moved to the Oregon Coast in 1956. Sandra graduated from Taft High School in Lincoln City, Oregon in 1959. She attended Monterey Peninsula Jr. College in Monterey, California and received an Associates in Business. She returned to the Pacific Northwest in 1969 where she had a rewarding 30 year career in the Accounting office with Consolidated Freightways. During this time Sandra enjoyed spending weekends with her parents on the Siletz River and accompanying the family on camping trips in the Wallowa Mountains. In her retirement Sandra was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish in Tigard, Oregon; she enjoyed crocheting prayer shawls and baby blankets for St. Anthony’s prayer shawl group and could always be seen helping out at events hosted by the Catholic Daughters. She faithfully put together the weekly church newsletter with the newsletter group. She had many close friends at St. Anthony’s, these were relationships that she cherished very much. She enjoyed volunteering in the kindergarten classroom of St. Anthony’s School for many years and loved watching the children as they grew up in the parish. Sandra enjoyed her patio garden in Summerfield and was a member of the Summerfield Garden Club. Sandra loved traveling and accompanied her family on many family vacations; her favorite place to go was the Kona, Hawaii. She also traveled on five pilgrimages to Italy, Portugal, Spain, Bosnia, and France visiting shrines and other historical holy places with Diocese Travel Club. Sandra was devoted daughter; she cared for her aging mother in Tigard until her death in 2012.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Judy and Douglas Nesbitt of Montana, her sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Michael McGowan, and niece and nephew Erin Rose and Kevin McGowan of Alaska, as well as cousins Carol Hudson and Debra Zahnle, of Oregon.
