Scott Curtis Charon was born on March 25, 1970 in Portland, Oregon at Woodland Park Hospital to Curtis Charon and Sue Schmidt. At the age of 52, he passed away at Oregon Health Science University on June 21, 2022 with lots of family around at his side.
Scott spent his childhood first in Portland, Oregon, but then moved to La Grande, Oregon when he was in the 4th grade. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1988 and then graduated from Eastern Oregon University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Music has always been a huge part of his life where he sang tenor in church choirs, school choirs, and even in college. He was even known to use the fireplace hearth as his own personal stage with his siblings.
As you can probably tell, he was always a social person. While growing up, he loved playing with his friends around the neighborhood or his brothers or sisters. He was a good student, active with his youth group, and an ambassador for new students.
Scott worked most of his adult life for PERS of Oregon where he made lots of friends and was the party planner. He was active in his church where he was a part of small group Bible Studies, singing in the church choir, performing in plays, ringing in the bell choir, and served on the Missions Counsel. You could always count on him to share about playing with his BUNCO group, going to a recent show with his Best of Broadway season tickets, or his most recent winnings from Las Vegas.
There would almost always be a smile on Scott’s face. He had an infectious laugh and was known as being one of the favorite uncles, especially while playing dress-up with his nieces. Don’t forget about being dependable in bringing his famous brownies or newest recipe that he was trying. He was compassionate and caring to all who were a part of his life.
Most recently, he realized he was suffering from a liver disease and had been battling health complications since earlier this year. Though we were hoping he’d be able to get a liver transplant, his body just couldn’t hold on. While worship music was playing in the background, and with the love of family around and holding his hands, he passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is now singing face-to-face with Jesus.
He is survived by his parents Curtis (and Susan) Charon and Sue Schmidt, his siblings Debbie (and Rob) Comfort, Deanna (and Merle) Comfort, Amy (and Scott) Verkest, Tony (and Amy) Charon, Greg (and Callie) Charon, Chris (and Jenn) Charon, Mike (and Anne Marie) Schmidt, Dawn (and Robert) Rathbone, as well as 15 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by Ron Schmidt (Stepfather).
He will always be remembered and most certainly cannot be replaced.
The service to celebrate Scott’s life will be on July 1, 2022 at Nexus Church - 12555 SW 22nd St, Beaverton, OR 97008. A reception will follow after the service.
If you would like to give a gift in honor of Scott, contributions can be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.
