Our loving daughter, sister and aunt, Sherry Daron, passed away suddenly on October 4th.
Sherry was born June 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Dan and Sally Daron. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1967. Sherry graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 1975.
Sherry started her 40-year federal career as a Young Adult Conservation Corps (YACC) employee. She was then hired at the Western Energy and Land Use Team (WELUT) in March of 1979 in Ft. Collins, Colorado as part of the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). In 1981, she transferred to Budget and Administration in Anchorage, Alaska as their travel clerk. She enjoyed and lived in Alaska for 7 years. In 1988 she transferred to the ES Field Office in Marion, Illinois located on the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge so she could spend more time with her Grandfather. While working there, she also took time to volunteer on the Refuge. She worked there until July of 1996 when she transferred to the Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) for the FWS in Wilsonville, Oregon. In January of 1998, she was promoted to executive secretary in the Regional Office of OLE, in Portland and remained there until she retired in July of 2019. Sherry always spoke fondly of her time as a career civil servant and the experiences associated with it.
Sherry was a welcoming presence in the office, making visitors and staff feel at home with her smile and ever-present bowl of candy. She always treated each issue and every person with compassion and warmth. Her attention to detail and knowledge of the agency helped the Office of Law Enforcement carry out a mission that was dear to her.
Sherry was also a treasured and valuable member of the Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She served as Chapter Regent from 2006-2007 and was Chapter Treasurer from 2012 to present. She often took on extra responsibility in the chapter through her passion for conservation and her support of the Milwaukie Vietnam Veteran Monument. Her caring nature also showed in her personal support of chapter members through action and prayer.
Sherry was loved and respected by her family, friends, and colleagues.
Sherry was preceded in death by her brother Steven Daron. Sherry is survived by her parents Dan and Sally Daron, Sister Becky Braun (Jim), nephews Aaron Braun (Annika), Kevin Braun, niece Meghan Braun and great-nieces Makenzie and Myla.
Sherry’s family will be honoring her in a gathering Sunday, November 10th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution or Christ United Methodist Church in Ft. Collins
