In high school, Sid wrote an essay and said he wanted to live a life of service. He has done that and more. He was active in Scouts from an early age and throughout much of his life. He served in the Korean war. He coached his children's sports teams, participated in their school activities, and never missed an important moment in their lives. Growing up he ran track, played baseball, football and hockey. He played hockey in college, and coached women’s basketball and softball, where he met the love of his life, Lauha. He ran well into his 70s, including the Hood to Coast relay multiple times as part of the “Super Seniors.” Throughout his life, he enjoyed the great outdoors including many camping and backpacking adventures with family and friends.
Above all, he was a good and trusted friend to many, and they returned that love and friendship. His family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support in the time of the loss of this wonderful man.
Sid was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lauha Selma Hyytinen Carlson; his parents, Sidney Laurentz and Hazel Elvira Carlson; his sister, Hazel Carlson Schubbe; and the dogs he loved so dearly, Charlie and Niiko.
He is survived by his daughters, Gwen Carlson Malott and Kristie Carlson-Croce, sons Mark and Steven Carlson, grandsons Steven and Spencer Venetta, granddaughter Chloe Ott, many nieces and nephews, and granddog Fred.
