

He was born October 5, 1924 in Seward, Nebraska to the late Stephen and Elizabeth Kasparek.
One of 10 children, Ted spent his youth in Seward, Nebraska. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Pacific theater during World War II. Spending time in Hawaii and the Philippines, he was honorably discharged in 1947.
Ted took advantage of the G.I. Bill by enrolling at Oregon State College (Oregon State University) where he received a B.S. in Agriculture -- Agricultural Engineering in 1954. While attending college Ted worked at Western Kraft, Inc., which later became Willamette Industries. Upon graduation he began a successful 38-year career in the pulp and paper industry. Ted retired in 1991 and continued working as a consultant for various local companies and organizations in the Portland area.
He married Shirley Marchbank, September 13, 1952 in Hood River, Oregon. Married for 53 years, Shirley preceded him in death in 2005. Ted and Shirley shared a great interest in volunteerism, he took an active role in many community service organizations including: Catholic Charities, The Assistance League of Portland and the YWCA of Portland. Ted was an avid outdoorsman, world traveler and logged many miles visiting his children and grand children across the United States.
Ted is survived by his children, Tony (Kristi), of Portland, OR; Ted (JoEllen), of New Orleans, LA; Kim Fetko (Steve), of Fairfield, CT; Karen Kiersey (Doug), of Winnetka, IL; Suzanne Mitchell (Dennis), of Spartanburg, SC, and 14 grandchildren: Ilmar, Kaili, Kaitlin, Lauren, Ted and Andrew Kasparek; Steve, Nick and Jessica Fetko; Samantha, William and Henry Kiersey; Madeleine and Hilliard Mitchell. He also leaves behind his brother, Ed (Frances) Kasparek, Corvallis, OR; sisters, Mary Dowless of Corvallis, OR; Martha Billing of Vancouver, WA; Angie (Gene) Tietz of Keizer, OR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his brothers: Raymond, Bernard, Alphonse and Stephen and sister, Patricia. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends further survive him.
Funeral services will be held as a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:45 a.m. and Mass at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11th at Resurrection Catholic Parish in Tualatin, OR. There will be a private graveside service at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Oswego, OR. Please join the family for a reception in the Parish Hall after services.
