William “Bill” MacGregor Sanders passed away on November 23, 2017 at 71 years of age. Bill was the beloved husband of Hélène Vignau Sanders, loving father of Matthew (Stephanie Cozzi) Sanders and Jessica (Jeff Stephens) Stephens, devoted grandfather of Jack Sanders and Valentina Cozzi Sanders, loving brother of Steven Sanders and William Lee Peters, Jr. & dedicated uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice “Bunny” Peters and William MacGregor Sanders, Sr., his stepfather William Lee “Pete” Peters, Sr. and his brother Bruce Sanders.
Bill was born in San Francisco in 1945, but raised on the Peninsula where he graduated from San Carlos High School. He moved back to San Francisco for college, at the University of San Francisco. He spent his junior year abroad at the University of Loyola’s Rome campus and traveled all over Europe - a trip he never forgot. He graduated from USF in 1968, the year he married Hélène. He went on to graduate from USF’s School of Law and practiced in San Francisco, Oakland and Marin County, specializing in civil litigation, until his retirement in 1987.
In 1989, Bill and his family relocated to Jacksonville, Oregon where Bill was very active in the community. In 2001, they moved again – to Tualatin – where Bill continued to enjoy his retirement, devoting much of his time to his art, his love of music and expanding his extensive library.
Even though he left San Francisco, he never left his beloved San Francisco Giants and remained a true fan until the end. He was looking forward to the Giants winning another World Series next year.
His passing has left a hole in our hearts, but his loving spirit will live on. A memorial service will be held at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard at 2:00 on Weds, Nov 29. In lieu of flowers, we ask those wishing to honor Bill’s memory make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
