William John Dahn was born June 21st 1946, died March 6th 2013. Bill was born in Billings Montana the youngest of three children born to Miriam C. and John C. Dahn. When Bill or " Sweet Willy", as he was known to his family and friends, was 3 years old the family relocated to Pocatello, Idaho. From his earliest, Bill was a thoughtful, sensitive, and intelligent child. He was very quiet and did not speak early on, but when he started, he spoke in full sentences and was very verbal from that point forward.
Bill as a child was fond of animals and had a Shetland pony named "Dolly" who provided constant companionship and transportation. Early on, Bill formed an opinion that he was adopted because he was the only one of three children with "Red" hair. This was an idea which prompted Bill to saddle up Dolly and runaway to his grandmother and grandfather's house on a monthly basis.
Bill was introspective and thoughtful and kind from his earliest years and preferred intellectual pursuits. Bill was an avid collector of baseball cards and baseball memorabilia and was capable of knowing the starting lineups and batting averages of not only his favorite team the "Brooklyn Dodgers" But both the American and National league. Bill had an amazing memory and his ability to recall statistics which was truly astounding.
The family moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon in October of 1957 when Bill was in the fourth Grade. Miriam and John opened a Coast to Coast Store on Main Street in Klamath Falls, and Bill began his career as a salesman and store Clerk which piqued his interest in goods and services in exchange for money. The problem was his generosity took over and he was more likely to give things away. His two siblings were involved early on in Bill's daily business which he marketed door to door. Bill was the only one of the three with the fortitude to go "door to door" This experience further heightened his interest in "numbers" and thereafter his pursuit of business and accounting.
Bill graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1964 and furthered his education in business at Southern Oregon State College and OIT (Oregon Institute of Technology). Bill was involved in a serious accident and was not expected to live but again Bill showed his "metal" and became an excellent college student and won academic honors prior to graduation. Bill pursued his CPA, which by all accounts is a strenuous, arduous and difficult process. Once again he prevailed and was awarded his certificate in 1970. Thereafter, he worked in L.A. for one of the "Big Seven" accounting firms: Arthur Young. After 3 years his entrepreneurial spirit surfaced and he established a private practice in Portland, Oregon in 1973. His private practice in accounting spanned 40 years.
Bill was a CPA in the Portland area from 1973 until the date of his death. Bill was a consummate friend and devoted family member. Bill would set aside anything he was involved in to accommodate friends and family and maintained that devotion and loyalty throughout his life.
Bill had an interest in writing and linked it with his love of fantasy football to become "Published" and interviewed on national radio and quoted in several major newspapers.
Bill was the heart and soul of his group of fantasy football owners and was the originator of a league which has existed for over 20 years and included a large group local devoted enthusiasts. His sense of humor was self-deprecating. He was quite witty and alsoknew where to buy the funniest cards in Portland.
Bill always marched to his own "drummer" and was an individualist throughout his life and maintained an interest and devotion to the "underdog" He couldn't pass up a worthy cause and often offered his services without expectation of compensation.
Bill will live on in the hearts and minds of his friends and family.
Survived by his Mother Miriam Camilla Dahn, his Sister Jacqueline Frazier and family, and his Brother Grover C. Dahn and family.
