Barbara A. Van Horn passed away on September 23, 2020. She was 73. Born Barbara Bell, she grew up in the Overlea and Perry Hall areas and later resided in Carney and Timonium. In 1965, she graduated from Parkville High School, where she played basketball, field hockey, and softball. She also was a member of the National Honor Society. Following high school, she attended Strayer Business School and later completed additional business courses at Essex Community College. In 1966, she married Robert L. Van Horn, Jr. They shared many interests, including cars. Over the years, they owned Corvettes and attended car shows in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Her professional life included 12 years with Giant Food, starting as a part-time cashier and later becoming a trainer as the chain converted to a new checkout system. In the early 1980s, she earned certificates in paralegal studies from the University of Maryland University College. She also attended College of Notre Dame of Maryland, earning a business degree through the Weekend College. She spent the majority of her career – 24 years - with T. Rowe Price. She served as the Corporate Secretary for 12 years and retired in 2012.
She enjoyed various types of music and frequently attended concerts. She saw the Beatles’ Baltimore show in 1964 and often saw her favorite bands, such as the Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac, multiple times. She also attended numerous sporting events as she followed horse racing, golf, tennis, baseball, and football. She is survived by her husband, her daughter Sandi Van Horn, and her sister Kimberly Gust.
A memorial service will be limited to family; however, friends may view a live stream beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the link below.
