

Carl Monroe Elam passed away on November 16, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born on November 9, 1943 in Lexington, Kentucky. Carl was the beloved husband of Sherril L. Elam (Colwell) and devoted father of C. Oliver Elam and his wife Jennifer, Charlotte Jane Elam, and R. Susanna Price and her husband Paul. He was the proud grandpa of Ciena and Cooper Elam; Edward Michael Jakubowski IV; and Nathaniel, Noah, Malachi, and Jeremiah Price. Carl was the dear brother of Sandra Elam Simrall and Mary Josephine Wirth, and is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
Carl was innately curious about the world and throughout his life sought opportunities to learn and be creative. He held a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and continued his studies in graduate programs at Purdue University, University of New Mexico, St. Mary’s University and The George Washington University. He proudly served as an officer in the Air Force from 1969-1989, working as a countermeasures engineer. After retiring from military service, he worked for various engineering firms on municipal projects across Maryland and Washington D.C. In his free time he developed new technologies and was named on over 10 patents. This included the V-Chip that helped parents to restrict their children’s access to television programming based on the content-standards industry's parental guidelines.
After retirement Carl cherished spending time with his grandchildren, sharing his love of trains, and exploring his faith through the lens of various religions. His technical hobbies included practicing morse code, working with ham radios, and tinkering with electronic projects. Carl cared deeply for his family to whom he dedicated years of love, guidance and unwavering support.
A visitation will be held at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc, located at 10 W. Padonia Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on November 23, 2025 from 2 to 6 pm. The funeral service will take place at the same venue on Monday, November 24, 2025 from
10 to 11 am. Following the service, a committal service will be held at Bosley Methodist Church Cemetery, 14800 Thornton Mill Road, Sparks, Maryland 21152 from 11:30 to 11:45 am.
Carl Monroe Elam’s legacy of faith and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
