Dr. Chien Hong Fung passed away peacefully of Parkinson’s on April 30, 2025 in Baltimore, MD. He was the loving husband of Wendy Fung, beloved father of Phyllis Fung and her husband John, and Connie Fung and her husband Hawkin, and grandfather of Lucas.
Chien, as most knew him, was born in Linluo, a village in southern Taiwan. After graduating from National Taiwan University in Taipei, he came to the United States where he completed a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Case Western Reserve. He spent most of his years in Lawrenceville, NJ, working for American Cyanamid. He was an active member of the New Jersey Taiwanese-American community, advocating for democracy in Taiwan, loved playing bridge, rooting for the Yankees, and eating well.
A memorial service will be held in New Jersey this summer, details will follow. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed in Dr. Fung’s memory to: Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA) https://fapa.org/donate-fapa/
