Raised in Govans, he attended Govans Elementary School, Roland Park Junior High School and Baltimore City College. A 1957 graduate of Johns Hopkins University, he combined a 35-year career with the New York Life Insurance Company and an active reserve military career in the U. S. Army Reserve, rising from a 2nd Lieutenant to the rank of Colonel. He was the commanding officer of the 2053 Army Reserve Reception Station Baltimore MD and then served as Adjutant General and Assistant G4 of the 97th Army Reserve Command, Ft. Meade MD and Center Commander of the 352nd Civil Affairs Command, Riverdale, MD. He retired from the military in 1989. Among his military awards are the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters, Trout Unlimited, Reserve Officer Association (life member) and Army Reserve Liaison to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. In his spare time, he enjoyed fly fishing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carole Jean (nee Shenton) Krach, a daughter Donna J. Reuter and her husband James, a son Kenneth F. Krach and his wife Anne, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Friday from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM. Donald’s life will be celebrated at the funeral home on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 10AM. Interment Parkwood Cemetery.
