On Friday, June 19, 2026, Dorothy E. Wright (nee Royston) passed away. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to the late Wayne D. “Buster” Wright; loving mother of Deborah J. McKearney and her husband Thomas and the late Donna E. Hungerford; cherished grandmother of Sydney Hungerford; dear sister of Edward Royston, Jr. and his wife Belinda, the late Joan Banister, and her late infant sister Shirley Royston; treasured aunt of Thomas Banister, Jr., Kevin Banister, Brian Banister, and Christopher Royston; also survived by other loving family and friends.
Dorothy was a woman whose energy seemed endless and whose heart for serving others knew no bounds. A devoted member of Frames Memorial United Methodist Church, she spent countless hours volunteering her time with church upkeep, helping with the food pantry, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. Her dedication to serving others earned her a community service award, though those who knew her best understood that recognition was never what motivated her. She simply loved helping people. Deeply rooted in her faith, she found great joy in serving the Lord, her church family, and her loved ones.
Sitting still was never one of her talents. If there was work to be done, she was already halfway through it. As a young woman, she enjoyed playing basketball and softball, displaying the same determination and competitive spirit that would remain with her throughout her life. Dishes were washed almost as soon as they became dirty, and her dishwasher became the perfect hiding place for potato chips because she knew her husband would never think to look there. Dot took immense pride in her lawn, often pulling out her push mower the moment the grass grew a little taller than she preferred. When her own yard was finished, she wasn't above heading to her daughter’s house and recruiting a little extra help for that garden, too.
Her love of sports never faded. She cheered passionately for the Baltimore Orioles and could often be found teaching baseball fundamentals to the younger members of the family. Her football loyalty began with the Baltimore Colts, but when they left town, so did her allegiance, and she became a devoted Baltimore Ravens fan., When winter weather kept her from being outdoors as much as she liked, she turned her boundless energy toward baking. Family and friends eagerly anticipated her chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter blossoms, and black bottoms. Though she wasn't known for adventurous tastes, she loved a good crab cake and could always be counted on to remind everyone that mashed potatoes needed one thing: more salt. Above all else, she loved her family, cherished her faith, and left behind a legacy of service, hard work, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Dot’s Life will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, starting at 11AM.
