Edgar L. Gise, Jr., known to many as “Bunk” and to the most special as “Pop”, died January 13th, 2025 at York Hospital after a brief illness. Ed was born in Baltimore on October 31,1952 to Edgar Gise, Sr. and Ruth N. Gise who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded to heaven by his brother, Gary Gise. Ed is survived by his sister, Nancy Gise of Randallstown, niece Maggie (Gise) Williams, and nephew Logan Gise. Ed is also survived and will be greatly missed by his three daughters and their families. Jennifer Johnston, husband Gaines and children, Riley and William of Grasonville MD. Kristine Shaffer, husband Jason and children Lucy and Tyson of Dillsburg PA. And Angela Reynolds, husband Adam and son Ryan of Dover, PA. These five grandkids adored their “Pop” and always looked forward to his gifts of Mentos and golf balls.
Ed grew up on Lorraine Avenue in Woodlawn, Baltimore. He married his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Laura (Buckingham) Gise, and they moved to Colorado Springs in 1973 after honeymooning there. In Colorado, he enjoyed skiing, exploring the Rocky Mountains, playing “beer league” softball and it was here after a visit from his father, an avid golfer, that he learned to love the game of golf. He worked hard as a tool and dye maker and machinist throughout his life, returning to school for his associate’s degree, rarely using a sick day and teaching his girls an excellent work ethic. He moved his family back east to York, Pennsylvania in 1990 for better employment opportunities. In addition to working as a machinist in Pennsylvania, he loved teaching evening classes at York VoTech for several years and playing golf whenever he got the chance. In retirement, he worked part-time at several local golf courses, wanting to be close to the game he adored with easy access to lost golf balls to add to his enormous collection of logo balls. He loved a deal, so discounted green fees were a bonus as he continued to play as much as possible. He also developed a love for travel and took several trips with friends and family over the past several years throughout the U.S. and all the way to Australia and Fiji.
Family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 10 AM to 11 AM at which time a Celebration of Life service will begin.
