Dr. Edward George Grace

Dr. Edward Grace passed away peacefully at home in Timonium, Md. on January 11, 2023. Dr. Grace is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Debra Ann Grace. He is also survived by 4 children of a previous marriage to Nancy Whinnie which ended in 1992. He was a devoted and beloved father of Erin Grace Dorn (David) of Laurel, Md., Cary Grace Cudmore (John) of Winnetka, Il., Maureen Grace Antill (Michel) of Ellicott City, MD., and Patrick Grace (Renee) of Fulton, Md. He is also survived by his adored 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, and Emily Dorn, Elly and Jack Cudmore, Nicky, Grace, and Emma Antill, and William, Kelly, and Robert Grace. He is also survived by a sister, Judith Henry, of New York. He is survived by Debra’s two dear daughters, Alexsis McGovern (Michael) and Mackenzie Borgmann (Scott) and their children Ashlyn, Scott, Jr. and Michaela.

Dr. Grace graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md. with majors in philosophy and biology. He then earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Maryland Dental School. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Clinic Psychology from Loyola University in Baltimore and did post-doctoral studies in behavioral medicine at the University of Maryland.

Originally from Mamaroneck, New York, he made Maryland his home during his academic studies. He practiced dentistry in Columbia from 1969 to 1986 when he decided to teach full time. At the University of Maryland Dental School he was Director of Behavioral Sciences and was the Clinical Director of the Brotman Facial Pain Center from 1987 to his retirement in 2014. He was also a clinical faculty member of the Psychophysiological Clinic at the University of Maryland Medical School from 1982 to 1991. During his career Dr. Grace published over 50 peer reviewed articles, was a principal or co-investigator on 8 funded research projects and lectured extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

He Entered the U.S. Navy Dental Corps upon graduation from Dental School and served on active duty in New London, Ct., Newport, Rhode Island, and Quantico, Va. Upon release from active duty, he subsequently spent 17 years in the Naval Reserve and retired from the military with the rank of Captain.

He and Debra together enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, attending the BSO, Hippodrome and other local theatre events. They were blessed to have many loving friends and relatives in the area during their retirement. Ed often met with friends from his college and teaching days.

He took great pleasure in interacting with his children and grandchildren and watching them grow and prosper. He had enormous pride in their accomplishments and outstanding lives. He loved attending their many sporting activities.

The family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (At York Rd) Timonium, MD 21093 on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 2 to 4pm at which time a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on at 4 pm.
