Suddenly on April 30, 2010 Dr. Gracito Vicente Patricio died at his Lutherville home. Dr. Patricio is survived by his wife Barbara Patricio, a daughter Tina and Matthew Thompson, son Mark and Jennifer Patricio, son Kevin and Maite Patricio; grandchildren Will and Audrey Thompson, Sam and Margaret Patricio and Lucas Patricio. Dr. Patricio–also known as Pat, Grace, Doc, Lolo and Dad–was a generous man, a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a doting grandfather. As a child in WWII, he was straifed by the Japanese and hid in caves with his family. He sold peanuts and chiclets to US GIs. He learned the merit of hard work. After attending the University of Santo Tomas, a university older than Harvard, he came to the United States to become a doctor. He arrived here with nothing more than a packed suitcase. In 1968, his marriage to Barbara was one of the first in which a US born citizen married an alien resident and allowed to stay in the USA thanks to a prominent Senator. As a result, they paved the way for future families and generations to plant seeds and flourish in the state of Maryland. Gracito met his wife. He became a doctor. He raised a family. He gained the respect of the community around him. And all the while, showed his children how to be outstanding people. There was little that he enjoyed more than over-loving his friends and family, and caring for others. Dad would wake up at 4:30am everyday to go swimming before making rounds at three Baltimore hospitals prior to holding office hours daily treating patients, some who he has treated for over 25 years.
His family and friends, around the globe, are grieving and joining together to honor his memory. It is certain that shopkeepers around the Baltimore will also notice his absence as they see their wine, food and beer sales plummet. However, like those who were close, they know that is was just the time spent with him that made it all worthwhile. He is and will be missed.
The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc. 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Sunday, May 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Joseph Church 101 Church Lane Cockeysville, MD on Monday, May 3, at 9:30 AM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society www.leukemia-lymphoma.org 11350 McCormick Road Executive Plaza 111, Suite 100 Hunt Valley, MD 20131.
