I am so very saddened to hear of Dr. Elberfeld’s passing. My mother, a Labor & Delivery RN, worked with him for many years at Franklin Square hospital & GBMC. I had been a patient of his since I was a teenager up until I started a family of my own in which he delivered 4 of my 6 children. He was so wonderful and I was so very blessed to be his patient. I knew I was always in very good hands.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. May the Lord bless you and keep you during this difficult time. God bless!

I would have walked across hot coals barefooted for this man.
When the epidural "electrocuted" me down the entire right side of my body, he climbed on the table with me and held me while the anesthesiologist tried again. Years later, when my eye doctor dismissed a concern about an "eye event," Dr. Elberfeld listened to my complaint, and diagnosed a small stroke. He sent me to a neurologist who found the stroke, ordered an esophageal cardiogram, and found the "hole" in my heart, which lead to fixing that open PFO. So, he saved my life.
Several years after that, he sent my daughter to Shady Grove for fertility treatment and then he delivered both of my grandsons, to my daughter that he delivered after getting off the delivery table with me.
He was really my "go to doctor" for everything; the only one whom I trusted explicitly for everything. I am crushed that he is gone. He was the best of the best.

I was a patient of Dr. Elberfeld's when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 26 years ago. He was instrumental in referring me to the best surgeons and oncologist. Thanks to him, I survived the surgery, reconstruction and chemotherapy and have had no recurrence. I am thankful that he was my GYN because I feel I received the best care a patient could ever expect.

I remember how much he loved delivering babies and how knowledgeable and passionate he was about his area of expertise.

Rest in peace, Dr. Elberfeld. Your patients are grateful for the outstanding care you provided us.

I enjoyed working with Dr. Elberfeld for many years at Franklin Square Hospital. Not only did he support the Emergency Medicine Department where I worked, he took care of several of my family members. He always provided excellent personalized treatment in a gracious and generous manner. He modeled the best of what being a physician is all about.

In August 2006, I rushed was to GBMC for a possible eptopic pregnancy. I was met by a wonderful doctor by the name Dr. Harrold Elberfeld. Everything looks good Angela he said, don’t worry your going to be fine. I was a single mother with my second baby on the way. No resources no family in Baltimore but this God sent doctor was amazing. I didn’t have gas money to come for my visits he called me and sent a Nurse out in between visits. On April 14, 2007 I delivered a 9.5 lb baby boy. And Dr E came in personally to deliver him via C section. He took great care of me and my baby. He wasn’t just a Doctor he was a friend someone who really cared for his patients. He will be forever in my heart. I’m going to miss him dearly. To his family So sorry for your loss.

In 2008 I was asked to write a letter in support of Dr. Elberfeld’s nomination for the GBMC Compassionate Caregiver award. I was honored to do so, and am so glad I kept a copy. I’ve attached a photo here. It was a pleasure to work with “Elbie” both as a nurse and a nurse manager. The world of medicine has lost a champion. May he rest in peace with his beloved Sherry.

Dr. Elberfeld sat at the foot of my hospital bed FOR HOURS until he thought an emergency C-section was in order. That 9.5lb baby boy who is now 24 years old is the joy of my life. I think of Dr Elberfleld often and tell my son’s birth story - which Dr Elberfeld was a huge part of - to everyone. So, so sorry to hear of his passing. What a kind, caring man. I’ll never forget him...❤️

My dear friend and colleague,
I am saddened by your death but know your wisdom, kindness, humility, love for women in need, and love for family are traits in so many others because of your example. You were a professional role model to many of us; shaping our futures in the best manner. Your compassion was endless and you always went above and beyond for others. You were with me at the birth of my daughter and in other situations that were not as joyous. Your presence was always reassuring and your demeanor calm. I will miss you. I hope your sons will be comforted by the messages from those of us that worked with you for many years. Peace 🙏

John and Andrew --- My heart was so saddened to hear of the passing of Harrold - one of the dearest long time friends I ever had ... and my physician partner in OB/GYN practice. I began practicing my Nurse Midwifery career with Harrold, Donald, and Gerry in Jan 1984. Harrold and I both had a love of OB .... and he enhanced my wisdom and understanding of everything OB over the years.... including the ability to practice high risk OB with him .... The greatest quality of our career relationship was TRUST! ..... He called us "Professional Soulmates" .... as our minds were like one in the practice of OB ..... we always called decisions in the same way .... A midwife has to have complete trust in the physician who is backup to cover when a need arises ..... when I was on call in Labor and Delivery ...... if I called him and said " It's time for a C/S" ---he TRUSTED my judgement and I TRUSTED him to come the moment I called him.
We valued each other's opinions - and that relationship was very special. .... There are so many doctors and nurses who were truly valued by Harrold .... I sat with him in "morning rounds" with the residents every day - as the residents discussed their patients , treatments, outcomes, etc and he was the best mentor possible to all of them.... The nursing staff loved him --- as they saw his compassion for every person in his care.... and he loved the nursing staff - every one of them ...... Early on Harrold Talley Elberfeld started calling me "SS" - and so he became "HTE" to me........Just weeks ago I saw him at the memorial for your Mom .... and so now ... "HTE - I know you are now exactly where your heart wanted to be .... with Sherry once again!
