

Born on August 2nd, 1937, Herb was the son of Herbert Sr. and Addie Mae Mathews. He graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School and went on to proudly serve in the Air Force Reserves and work at Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point. A dedicated entrepreneur, he was the owner of R & R Ties, F.E.A.T, and White Marsh Self Storage.
Herb was known for being an avid hunter, a vintage car enthusiast, and a good friend to all. He loved the open road and enjoyed traveling in his many motor homes, eventually visiting all 50 U.S. states. Above all, he brought humorous joy to everyone who knew him.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Cliff, and his first wife, Margery. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Mathews, his sister, Lin McLain, his sister-in-law, Mary-Carol “Wimp” Mathews; his son, Herbert “Matt” Mathews III (Candyce), his nieces and nephews; Debbie “Dee” Wilson (Doug), Stuart McLain, Clay Mathews (Anna),David Mathews (Suzanne), Tracy Mathews; his cherished grandchildren, Maggie Brown (Jordan), Graham Mathews, and Kelcey Trewin. Also survived by his stepchildren Holly Fox (David); Matthew Bashforth (Kristin); step grandchildren Alyssa Slater (Mitch), Caitlin Markowski (Joe and daughter Peyton), Jake Bashforth, and Cooper Bashforth.
A public gathering will be held at 11:00 AM with a service to follow at 12:00 at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley Inc. located at 10 West Padonia Rd, Timonium, Maryland at 11:00 AM on August 2nd, 2026.
