Ida Mae Greene

Peacefully on June 26, 2019 IDA MAE GREENE (nee Armacost).

Cossie, as she liked to be called, grew up on the family farm on Trenton Road in Upperco, Maryland before and during the Depression. She had many stories of life on the farm with her parents and siblings.

After graduation from Franklin High School, among other jobs she worked building aircraft radios at Bendix in Towson during WWII, where she met her future husband, Willard. They married later in 1948. They moved many times in the Washington and Baltimore area. They started a small family in Towson and eventually settled in McLean, Virginia to raise her sons Douglas and Robert. Later she settled back in Maryland in Jacksonville. After her husband of 57 years, Bill, died she lived the rest of her life at Glen Meadows in Glen Arm where she made many friends.

God and religion were a part of her life. She attended Lutheran Church in Trenton, Trinity United Methodist Church in Mclean, Virginia; Texas United Methodist Church in Cockeysville, and assisted with Communion at Glen Meadows Retirement Community).

She always loved books, especially the mysteries, and history. A Frank Sinatra fan and liked piano music. She enjoyed many hobbies and games. Mom spent many nights embroidering quilts of all the 50 states’ birds and flowers for each of her sons. She grew all types of flowers in the gardens and pots. Games she enjoyed were bingo, rummy, bowling and puzzles. Some of her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy, Judge Judy, Bonanza, and nature shows. She was envied for her bingo skill. Cossie loved her farm animals and afterwards her 3 dachshund companions; Fritz, Gus, and Max. She treasured her three grandchildren; Robin, Jim, and Billy.

She lived her life with a quiet grace and dignity. She met life challenges with grace and courage. She met her final days in the same way. Many described her in terms of : self-sufficiency, practicality, down to earth, independence. In additions to these individualist qualities she was known for putting everyone else ahead of herself. She was her friends’ shoulder to cry on in many cases. She assisted many of her Glen Meadows neighbors when they ill.

She will be missed and remain forever in our hearts.

Ida Mae is the beloved wife of the late Willard Mack “Bill” Greene; loving mother of Douglas W. Greene and his wife Ann and Robert N. Greene and wife Anne; cherished grandmother of James and William Greene and Robin Riddle. Also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the LEMMON FUNERAL HOME OF DULANEY VALLEY INC., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Monday, July 1, 10:30am to 12:30pm with a Celebration of Ida’s life beginning at 12:30pm.

Interment Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
