Mr.  And Mrs. Carroll were good friends with my Mom and Dad - Charlie and Blanche Francis. We grew up I with Billy and Jimmy. I have so many fond memories of you all and your parents - especially your Dad. Both he and your Mom were down to earth folks. I loved your Dad's laugh and his sense of humor. He would always have some words of wisdom that he would impart as he chomped on his cigar stub. He had a heart of gold as did your Mom. We were honored to have them be a part of our lives. We all loved, loved, loved Carroll's store. I can still see the aisles and the meat cutters' area. The day it closed is like learning of your father's passing today- very, very sad. I have such fond and loving memories of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Carroll, Jimmy and Billy. They were quite a special part of my childhood and I carry them all in my heart to this day. I'm fairly certain I gave Mr. Carroll his first gray hair. Working in the grocery store my pretty much daily bloopers just about drove him crazy. His nickname for me was Bones (and sometimes Scooter). Knocking over spice jar displays, getting the conveyor belt stuck watching helplessly as cases of liquor crashed onto the basement floor and everything else I managed to run into, trip over, price incorrectly or put on the wrong shelf truly tested his patience. While running the register I'd hear a booming voice holler BONES!!. I knew I'd better exit stage leftquickly! I used to think I never got fired because of the close, long term and steadfast friendship with my Parents. But I now know it was because this amazing man had a heart of gold, loved generously and faithfully. He truly never ever stayed mad very long. He taught me the meaning of the benefits of working hard, putting your heart into your work and integrity. Lessons that serve me well. He was a kind man whose bark was bigger than his bite, a laugh that filled the room whom I often described as being larger than life. Rest in pain free peace Mr. Carroll, you will be missed dearly. God be with you. And God be with your Family during this time of sadness and loss. I'm so very sorry.

Reflecting on the loss of my good friend Perry Carroll.I came to Jacksonville as a meat cutter w/ Safeway,meeting Perry almost immediately .he took me under his wing & intrduced me to a lot of his friends & customers from Carrolls Store.Perry treated not only like a son ,but also like a brother of the meat cutters  fraternity ( we spoke the same language) I'm going to miss him greatly,but I'm glad the pain& suffering are over.  May my good friend be reunited w/Miss Viv & live a joyous life together .The Youngblood & Chenowith families would like to extend our deepest sympathies to entire Carroll family In Brotherhood & Friendship I remain Skip YoungBlood

Sad to hear of Mr Carroll's passing. My family have such fine memories of his store like the wooden floors, the guys behind the meat counter, and my dad's favorite...being handed his six pack of beer on the way out of the store. Please accept our condolences.

Saddened to see the loss of Perry. Enjoyed many happy hours with he and Viv. My Mom always depended on his choice of meat. Watched Bill and Jim grow up. Perry was always happy and full of good humor and brings to mind many fun times.

Mr. Perry & Mrs. Vivian Carroll have always been like a second family for me since age 11 when I moved to the Jacksonville area and became BEST friends with their son Jim Carroll. They both welcomed me into their family home and took VERY good care of me, while putting up with the many adventures of Jim & I as we were growing up. 
In looking back I have some very fond memories of times with the Carroll's while growing up in Jacksonville area. 
As if these good times weren't enough we had many fishing adventures, with Jim, myself and Mr. Carroll (I never seemed old enough to call him Perry). These were some of the BEST times which keep me smiling, sometimes laughing when thinking of Mr. Carroll. He even impacted on the next generation of my family spending good times with both my son, Matthew & daughter, Stacey out on the Rappahannock. 
He lived a good long life, long enough where we could all sit around & look back and laugh at the many "troubles" Jim & I brought to his doorstep.
I'll miss you Mr. Carroll as will my family, but I know you'll always be watching over me as you have since I was 11.

My parents (Bob and Cathy Pabst) and I were saddened to learn of Perry's recent passing.  Both Perry and his late wife, Vivian, were marvelous examples of down-to-earth Christian people at our church, Chestnut Grove Presbyterian. My parents and I extend our deepest sympathy to Perry's family during this difficult time.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.
