

This quote from John Bunyan encompasses the spirit of James “Jim” Wolgamott, 74, of Sparks-Glencoe, Maryland, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, September 12, 2026 after an eleven-year battle with cancer. Those words reflect how he lived. He spent his entire life caring and giving to those around him.
He was born April 3, 1952 in Cambridge, Ohio and was the son of the late Robert Wolgamott and Marjorie (Sherman) Wolgamott.
Mr. Wolgamott completed his undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University. He relocated to Baltimore to take a teaching position and continued his education, earning his Masters degree at Johns Hopkins University. Jim retired after 34 years from Baltimore County Public Schools, where he had worked as a principal. In his retirement he worked at Loyola University as an Instructor of Education; Clinical Faculty, and in the Professional Development Schools (Elementary).
He was an active member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church of Owings Mills, Maryland where he served as a vestry member, was on the alter guild, lay reader and beloved member of the choir.
He contributed greatly to the Afghan Refugee Program spending countless hours assisting in their acclimation and success. He held a deep commitment to humanitarian values.
He is survived by his husband of 41 years, H. John Lang, of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Barbara (Rev. Andrew) Woods of Barnesville; many nieces & nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who brought the joy of grandparenting to his life every day.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Johns Hopkins Hospital for their care and devotion over the years.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 28, 2026 at 11am at St. Thomas’ Church located at 232 St. Thomas Lane, Owings Mills, MD 21117 at the corner of Garrison Forest Road and Saint Thomas Lane.
As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church or any humanitarian cause to honor Jim.
